MCZ designated species 01/01/2014
The Crawfish, or Spiny Lobster, has become the designated feature for Lundy's Marine Conservation Zone. These beautiful crustaceans are rare and as their numbers are falling, it is important that we protect them. Some concern has been raised as only this one species has been designated, however the majority of Lundy's marine life is protected by the Special Area of Conservation (SAC)which covers the reefs, sub-tidal sandbanks and sea caves thereby protecting the species living in these areas. Grey seals are also protected under the SAC and also the island's Special Area of Conservation. Species at Lundy have been well protected for over 40 years, and this will continue into the future keeping Lundy as a haven for wildlife.
